Save the Children

As much as I’ve always enjoyed my food, I’ve always been acutely aware of the amount of starving people there are in our world of plenty – particularly kids.

There are 170 million underfed children in the world today. Hunger and dirty water lead to malnourishment and disease. A child dies every three seconds from malnourishment or disease. 50 children will have died before you finished reading this introduction. It’s not acceptable. It deserves to be front page news and the reason it isn’t , is because it has become acceptable.

The main killers are malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and measles. These are all preventable diseases. Yet to provide free healthcare for all the children in Africa would cost less than £1:50 per child for a year – the price of a cup of coffee.

Sir Bob, Bono, ‘the’ Richard Curtis and many others are trying to get governments to change there policy to Aid and to cancel debts of money that we can live without – their efforts deserve support. But don’t think that your 2 or 3 pounds a month won’t make a difference, it will. That’s why they ask for it. Apart from creating a life what can you do that better than saving a life? You can help by buying this book and if you like it tell your friends.

‘ It’s not about charity. It’s about justice.’
